SOUTH AFRICAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS – CHECK MATE!

Zahra Kara, a Grade 10 learner from Star College, recently participated in the South African Open Chess Championships hosted in Durban this year at Glenwood High School.

The Tournament was held over 11 consecutive days. The competition was tough, but Zahra managed to achieve a score of 8 out of 11 even though she was not able to compete for 2 matches. This earned
Her a tied 4th Place, Top 3 in the Under 18 Category as well as Top 3 in her rating Category.

Ethekwini Libraries And Heritage Week Speech Competition

Speech contestCaitlin Chetty, grade 10D, represented Star College Girls High and District 9 in the Ethekwini Libraries and Heritage week speech competition.

Caitlin was placed second in the first round which was held at the Westville North Library on the 14th March 2014.

Caitlin Chetty, grade 10D, represented Star College Girls High and District 9 in the Ethekwini Libraries and Heritage week speech competition.  Caitlin was placed second in the first round which was held at the Westville North Library on the 14th March 2014.  She progressed through to the second round of the competition which was held in Inchanga on the 18th March 2014.  Here Caitlin took the third position, making both District 9 and Star College very proud of her accomplishments.  Caitlin is pictured here together with the Principal of Star College Girls High, Mr E.
